A Little History About Sam C. Mitchell & Associates
Mr. Sam C. Mitchell graduated from Frankfort Community High School in 1957. After serving in the active duty Army and then the Army reserve, he subsequently attended Illinois University (SIU) for his undergraduate degrees and received his Juris Doctorate Law Degree from Loyola University. He received the school’s highest recognition in the advocacy competition program. Mr. Mitchell also focused on medical education as a means of furthering his interest in dealing with the diagnosis, treatment, and overall life effects of traumatic injuries on those that he represents in his plaintiff’s personal injury practice.
Sam has served without pay as a part-time or auxiliary police officer for 21+ years and is a certified Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor and lecturer. He began his legal career in law by joining Leonard J. Dunn and Associates, which is the oldest and first civil trial firm in the area that completely restricted the practice of law to personal injury and medical cases solely on behalf of plaintiffs. The law firm was Mitchell & Dunn before eventually becoming Sam C. Mitchell & Associates.
In 1968, Sam was sworn in early at the private office of one of the members of the Supreme Court of Illinois so that he could try his first jury trial. Since day one, Sam has treated each case as its own and each client with the upmost respect. During his entire career, he has remained committed to the ideal that each and every client of the firm is entitled to dedicated and aggressive protection of their rights and a just and equitable outcome to their damage award. At Sam C. Mitchell & Associates, our goal is to treat every case alike, whether it be worth $1 or a million dollars.
Personal Injury Representation with a Personal Touch
Sadly, in 1975, Attorney Leonard Dunn lost his life as a result of a car accident. Attorney Mitchell took on that very case, took it to trial, and ended up winning. It is believed he was the first attorney to achieve over a $1 million verdict in Williamson County.
The courthouse would have what they called “Sam Days” in which he tried multiple cases over the course of a couple days. Also in 1975, Sam was one of the first in the area to utilize video tape equipment in the courtroom. This is one of many ways our law firm has been pioneering personal injury practice.
In 1981, Sam Mitchell was going for a test ride in a helicopter at the DuQuion Heliport when the helicopter spun, rolled over on its side, and lost control. Sam was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and received serious injuries from the crash. Sam has experienced firsthand what it is like to be involved in a serious accident and can relate to those who have also experienced a traumatic experience.
Our Commitment to Our Communities Runs Deep
In 1996, Sam worked vigorously with law enforcement to stop drugs in Southern Illinois. He believed that drug dealers should pay for their egregious misdeeds. He wanted to make certain they paid in both time lost to incarceration and in cold, hard cash to the families of young people whose lives have been damaged by drugs. Sam offered free legal services to families of minors in civil lawsuits aimed at making drug dealers pay for the cost of treatment programs. Sam was also a big supporter of the anti-drug DARE program.
Today, Sam C. Mitchell & Associates law firm has also made it a priority to give back to the community, just as we have always done for 50 years.
