Thanking Our Veterans and Active Service Members this Veteran’s Day
As a team of dedicated personal injury attorneys with two veterans on staff, we know firsthand how much our veterans sacrifice to serve our country and preserve the fundamental liberties we enjoy. We strongly believe that Veteran’s Day is a special time for us to reflect on the heroism of those who have died, and to pay our respects to those who have served.
In light of that, today we want to honor the many veterans and active service members who have become injured during the course of duty. In this post, we’ll discuss the incredible stories of our veteran attorneys, as well as some of the events we’ve hosted this last year to commemorate those who have served.
About Our Firm’s Veterans: Sam C. Mitchell & Matthew H. Caraway
At Sam C. Mitchell & Associates, two of our personal injury lawyers have had the great honor to serve in the military. This Veteran’s Day, we’d like to take a moment to thank them for their contributions, and talk about their ongoing service.
Our founder and leading attorney Sam C. Mitchell is a long-time veteran, who has served in both the active duty Army and then the Army reserve. Because of his experiences seeing the painful injuries sustained by his comrades and colleagues, Attorney Mitchell has dedicated his career to helping people fight for justice when they’ve been injured. For the last 21 years, Attorney Mitchell has also continued to serve his community without pay as a part-time or auxiliary police officer.
Another member of our experienced team of trial lawyers, Matt Caraway was inspired to join the Illinois Air National Guard after the terrible attack on the Twin Towers on September 11th, 2001. Serving for over 7 years, he was a Staff Sergeant and an Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran. For his excellent record of service, he was named Outstanding Airman of the Year in 2004.
Giving Back to Our Veterans
Because of our close personal connection to the men and women who have served our country, our attorneys at Sam C. Mitchell & Associates have always been committed to giving back. Last Veteran’s Day, we held a special “Free Coffee & Donuts” event for all veterans at The Coffeehouse. At the event, retired Marine Mike Gunter spoke powerfully on his experiences in the military, and on what serving his country meant to him.
Additionally, in June 2018 we sponsored and assisted with coordination for the 1st Annual Veteran’s Honor Flight Golf Scramble, which aimed to raise money for the Veteran’s Honor Flight of Illinois. This organization is dedicated to honoring our veterans, and allows them to take a free trip to Washington DC to tour the nation’s monuments and memorial sites. At this event, more than $35,000 in funds were raised to assist the Veteran’s Honor Flight in its goals.
This Veteran’s Day, our Illinois personal injury attorneys at Sam C. Mitchell & Associates encourage you to honor and celebrate the veterans in your life. On behalf of our firm, we thank all of our veterans and service members, and we invite you to contact us at 618-932-2772 for a FREE initial consultation if you need legal assistance.
